Celebrating Culture and Community at Villa Dalmacia Day Centre

Aligning an ongoing commitment to community engagement and promoting a sense of belonging and purpose, White Oak Home Care Services is proud to be able to broaden their impact beyond in-home care, with the management of the Villa Dalmacia Day Centre in Spearwood. With the support of Hall & Prior, White Oak is excited to offer a vibrant hub where culture, community and culturally appropriate care converge for clients with predominantly Italian, Croatian and Portuguese heritage.

Operating Mondays to Thursdays, Villa Dalmacia provides a range of services tailored to meet the individual needs of attendees. One of the highlights is the substantial three-course lunch, meticulously prepared to reflect the rich culinary traditions of clients. A convenient shuttle bus service is offered to and from the centre, ensuring that all attendees can access the support they need.

White Oak General Manager, Treasa Lonergan, said her team was excited to add the day centre as part of White Oak’s extensive presence in assisting elderly people staying well and independent. “Having the ability to offer a culturally appropriate centre to elderly people in the community that is inclusive, social and aligns with White Oak’s ethos of providing exceptional care just like family, is incredibly rewarding,” she said.

“We understand that maintaining social connections have remarkable benefits for people with dementia, in particular reducing loneliness and maintaining a sense of wellbeing whilst remaining independent. Having the ability to create a vibrant space that is safe and engaging gives clients the opportunity to have a day out of the house, enjoy a hearty meal, play games and make new friends”.

For 86-year-old Rosalina, being able to take advantage of the shuttle bus and meet up with her friends is often the highlight of her week. Originally from Portugal, Rosalina has a loving family including four children, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Rosalina lives independently at home and having the opportunity to socialise with friends gives her much joy.

For Rosalina, Villa Dalmacia is not just a day centre – it’s a second home where she feels a deep sense of belonging. “Everything about the day centre is fantastic,” Rosalina shares with a smile. “The food is delicious, the bingo games are so much fun, and I’ve made wonderful friends here. It’s truly a blessing to be part of this community.”
